Nearly ten years have passed since Amazon commenced its delivery drone initiative, intending to transform the online shopping experience via swift parcel transportation. Recently, the firm obtained clearance from the FAA to commence operations from its new facility in Arizona, along with the ability to conduct beyond-line-of-sight (BLOS) missions using the new MK30 drone. Earlier this year, we reported on the introduction of the MK30 drone and the relocation of the Amazon Prime Air service from California to Arizona.
The latest drone boasts twice the operational range of its forerunner, the MK27, and is claimed to function at considerably lower noise levels. With the BLOS authorization, these delivery drones can now access locations that are not directly visible from the distribution center, including the drone delivery hub. In the past, some users had raised issues concerning the noise produced by the MK27 drones, thus it remains to be seen if the MK30 will fulfill the expectations of the majority.
As for the types of parcels eligible for delivery through this service, they are restricted to a maximum weight of 2.27 kg (approximately 5 lbs), rendering it suitable for transporting medications and various other items where prompt service is crucial.
