Apple implemented significant enhancements to its default Weather app in the release of iOS 15. These improvements drew inspiration from features found in the well-known Dark Sky weather application, which Apple purchased in 2020. A standout feature of this upgrade is the capability to get alerts regarding the commencement or conclusion of rain or snowfall. This tutorial elucidates the process of activating these notifications on your iPhone.
Activating weather alerts on your iPhone with 2 simple steps
In the revamped Weather app of iOS 15, users can now register for notifications concerning upcoming precipitation. These alerts will keep you informed about impending rain, snow, or hail occurrences within the coming hour based on your present location or any other location you have specified in the Weather app. Follow the instructions below to set up these weather alerts. It’s worth noting that these notifications for impending precipitation are presently accessible only in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Ireland.
Step 1: Authorize location access
In order for the Weather app to notify you about conditions in your current vicinity, it requires ongoing access to your location data.
- Launch the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Navigate to “Privacy.”
- Click on “Location Services.”
- Locate and tap “Weather” within Location Services.
- In the “Allow Location Access” menu, opt for “Always.”
Step 2: Activate weather alerts
To receive weather notifications, particularly for rain or snow, adhere to the steps outlined below:
- Open the default Weather app on your iPhone.
- Tap on the list icon, found in the bottom-right corner of the interface.
- Choose “Turn on Notifications” at the top of the location list. If you cannot immediately see the “Stay Dry” card, click on the circular ellipsis symbol in the top-right corner, then select “Notifications.”
- On the “Allow Notifications” page, hit “Continue.”
- When the subsequent prompt appears, select “Allow.”
- Toggle the switches beside the locations for which you desire notifications. Once you finish, tap “Done.” Bear in mind, if you wish to receive notifications about conditions in your present location, you must have already granted location access.
From now on, you will start receiving notifications on your iPhone whenever rain or snowfall begins or ends.
