Mozilla is all set to launch Firefox version 116.0.2 today, marking the second update within a week. This new version comes right after the release of Firefox 116.0.1 by Mozilla last Friday.
The two updates have been rolled out in less than a week since Firefox 116 was officially released on August 1, 2023.
Both updates address issues unrelated to security that were identified in the browser. Firefox 116.0.1 addressed an issue where chart elements were not displayed correctly for Windows users.
In the fresh Firefox 116.0.2 update, Mozilla deals with a singular issue that specifically impacts users of ZoneAlarm Anti-Keylogger.
ZoneAlarm Anti-Keylogger is a security feature included in ZoneAlarm security products. Users of ZoneAlarm must activate the Anti-Keylogger feature within the Web & Privacy settings of their client application. This tool functions in multiple web browsers like Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Apple Safari, and Internet Explorer.
As per ZoneAlarm, Anti-Keylogger safeguards user computers from any malicious software that records keystrokes.
The issue at hand is outlined in a bug report on Mozilla’s Bugzilla bug tracking website. The reporter mentioned that after the previous update of Firefox was installed, keyboard inputs would repeat qwerty sequences instead of correctly typing the intended letter in Firefox.
Several posts on Mozilla’s official support forum corroborate that other users of the browser encountered this issue as well. Some users identified that the ZoneAlarm Anti-Keylogger tool was responsible.
A straightforward solution for this problem is to deactivate the Anti-Keylogger feature within the ZoneAlarm client software.
Mozilla is set to launch Firefox 116.0.2 today to tackle this issue for all users. Mozilla’s fix involves removing a ZoneAlarm DLL that caused crashes for a subset of users running ZoneAlarm software, which led to the addition of the DLL to the browser’s blocklist.
Users of Firefox running ZoneAlarm software with Anti-Keylogger enabled are recommended to install the update once it is available. Some Firefox installations might encounter crashes due to other issues but at least users will be able to type without facing scrambling problems. Other Firefox users can choose to install the update at their convenience as it doesn’t address any other browser issues.
To verify updates, Firefox users can navigate to Menu > Help > About Firefox to check their current version and trigger a search for updates.
