GitHub Proclaims Friday As “Open Source Day”

Latest Updates: GitHub has initiated a fresh program to inspire individuals and groups to contribute to open source projects. As part of this drive, one can kickstart their contribution journey by engaging in open source projects every Friday. Those interested can begin by lending their efforts to enhance the open source tools utilized by their organization.

Open source software is widely utilized around the globe and plays a crucial role in powering the internet. Whether it’s Linux or other leading open source technologies, technology firms and individual developers leverage open source solutions to innovate and enhance the existing infrastructure.

To simplify the process of contributing to open source, back in February, we provided a guide on leveraging GitHub for open source contribution. GitHub has also introduced measures, like balancing the employee IP agreement, to facilitate company employees’ involvement in open source projects. Taking a step further, GitHub has now rolled out its most recent venture under the title Open Source Friday.

    What’s Open Source Friday About?

GitHub describes Open Source Friday as a well-structured program designed to assist individuals in contributing to open source projects. Internally, GitHub has been motivating its staff to partake in open source projects at least every fourth Friday.

GitHub has also introduced a dedicated website, opensourcefriday.com, to inspire others to follow suit and join the initiative.

Here’s how you can get involved: Motivate yourself, your peers, your team, or your organization to contribute to the open source tools crucial for your company. Initiate with small steps, like dedicating two hours every Friday to work on open source endeavors.

You can take an active part in Open Source Friday by registering with your GitHub account.
