A significant modification has been made by Google Maps regarding its Android Auto phone connection feature for electric vehicle (EV) drivers. Gas stations are no longer visible under points of interest when using the app. Instead, charging stations have now been given priority and are placed at the top of the list for EV owners.
Although recently observed by users, this adjustment was actually officially announced and confirmed by Google in 2022. According to Google representative, Pearl Xu, the change was implemented to provide users with the most pertinent information while navigating. This particular feature has been accessible since 2020 for vehicles equipped with Google’s built-in software.
Besides this alteration, Google Maps provides various other features tailored for EVs. These include details on charging station availability, filters for charging speeds and connector types, suggested charging stops for journeys, and the capability to locate charging stations within search outcomes.
While EV drivers utilizing Google’s built-in software or Google Maps for navigation have had the option to conceal gas stations for quite some time, Google has now taken measures to enhance the experience specifically for EV drivers. This enhancement is especially vital considering the increasing number of EVs on the roads, a significant portion of which are equipped with Google’s built-in software, like the Polestar 2, Volvo XC40 Recharge, and the Cadillac Lyriq.
