Microsoft Fixes Auto HDR Issue in Windows 11

Windows 11, version 24H2 has just been introduced, yet it already presents a considerable list of complications, comparable to the length of a polonaise at a German festival.

Players have encountered numerous obstacles since its debut. The preliminary version of Windows 11 24H2 is not free from flaws, especially affecting the game Asphalt 8 and creating issues with Easy Anti-Cheat software.

Additionally, several Ubisoft titles have also been impacted. Microsoft has acknowledged that Auto HDR is grappling with its own range of difficulties.

Important Details: Windows users utilizing Auto HDR will not get the upgrade notification for Windows 11, version 24H2 through Windows Update.

Moreover, Microsoft advises users to avoid upgrading to the latest version of Windows 11 via alternative methods, like the Windows 11 Installation Assistant or the media creation tool.

    The Auto HDR Dilemma

Microsoft outlines the issue as follows: “You might discover that the colors in the game are inaccurate in certain display settings. Some games may also become non-responsive.”

In simpler terms, games may freeze or potentially crash while running Windows 11, version 24H2 if Auto HDR is switched on.

This problem particularly affects devices that have already transitioned to the latest version. If you are facing color inconsistencies or game freezes, the Auto HDR function on your device could be the culprit.

For those already using Windows 11, version 24H2, Microsoft has provided a workaround. It understandably recommends disabling Auto HDR either for all games or for specific titles.

    Here’s how to proceed:

    1. Open the Start menu.
    2. Select Settings.
    3. Navigate to System > Display within the Settings application.
    4. Choose Graphics on the page that appears.
    5. Turn off Auto HDR on this page.

This will deactivate the feature for all applications and games on the Windows 11 computer.

Alternatively, you can manage Auto HDR on an application-by-application or game-by-game basis. This can be accomplished on the same page under “Custom settings for applications,” permitting tailored modifications for particular titles.

Microsoft has conveyed that it is actively addressing the issue. In the meantime, gamers who have not upgraded remain on an earlier version of the operating system.
