The tech giant Microsoft has introduced a new pop-up on Windows 11 to showcase the Windows Backup application, which was first launched for Windows 10 and 11 last year. This software allows users to create duplicates of crucial files, directories, configurations, and login information. It should be noted that this backup functionality is limited and relies on OneDrive’s cloud storage, which provides only 5 GB of complimentary storage space. This constraint might cause difficulties for individuals managing a substantial amount of data within specific folders.
Continuous Pop-Up Notifications for Windows Backup App by Microsoft
An update from Microsoft has recently introduced persistent pop-ups that alert users about the absence of a complete backup on their computer system. The notification urges users to promptly create duplicates of their configurations and directories. Despite the alerts, the Windows Backup application does not support the backup of local directories, leading to frustration among users. Dismissing the notification will temporarily stop the pop-up messages, but they may reappear upon modifications to certain configurations.
TechRadar has suggested the implementation of a Promo Center within Windows 11 to highlight features such as the Windows Backup application in a more subtle manner. Microsoft’s aggressive advertising tactics, demonstrated through various advertisements in Windows 11 like full-screen notifications for updates and Bing pop-ups within Google Chrome, have been met with criticism. Enhancing the user experience rather than bombarding individuals with advertisements could result in increased user satisfaction.
When it comes to computer backups, users can consider using free alternatives like Veeam Agent, Rescuezilla, or Macrium Reflect Free to archive data on an external hard drive, reducing the dependence on Microsoft’s restricted cloud storage.
