In an age before digital photography, Polaroid cameras made a significant impact by providing immediate photo development. A modification by [Max] now brings back the same instant gratification by developing pictures in a remote picture frame.
The build involves placing a Raspberry Pi with a camera module inside a real Polaroid Land Camera. When a picture of a QR code is taken, the camera connects to a Wi-Fi network automatically. The picture is then sent over the Internet to a picture frame, where another Raspberry Pi with an e-ink screen displays it instantly.
In an effort to maintain the essence of the original Polaroid, the camera does not permanently save images. Once a picture is sent to the frame, it is deleted from the camera, allowing the next picture to replace it. Although color displays for e-ink screens have been limited, recent attempts, like this build integrated into a normal-looking picture frame, aim to introduce color displays.
