On Wednesday afternoon, Reddit’s mobile and web platforms experienced a significant disruption, prompting over 150,000 users to voice their displeasure on Downdetector. The complications commenced around 1:30 PM in San Francisco.
Individuals trying to access Reddit’s homepage encountered an error notification that stated, “Server error. Try again later.”
As per the company’s status page, Reddit.com was categorized as being in a “degraded state” at approximately 1:16 PM PT.
Nevertheless, about one hour later, Reddit declared that its systems were restored to normal operation.
A thorough examination of the problem identified that the outage was mainly triggered by a software update that had been deployed.
“Earlier today we released an update that inadvertently affected platform stability,” remarked Reddit spokesperson Tim Rathschmidt in an email to the media. “We implemented a fix and are now operational again.”
The status on Reddit’s page was refreshed at 2:16 PM to reflect that the issues had been addressed following the resolution.
Although some users might still experience access difficulties, the company has guaranteed that services will be progressively reinstated.
According to its status page, Reddit has encountered only a few significant outages in the preceding 90 days. While some users may still encounter obstacles, the organization expects that normal access will be restored shortly.
