Telenor Pakistan concluded 2024 with a total of 43.2 million subscriptions and announced service revenues of NOK 3.81 billion, indicating an 8.8% increase compared to the prior year. Throughout this timeframe, the company’s EBITDA experienced a noteworthy rise of 25.2%.
As per its parent entity, Telenor, the service revenue escalated by 12%, credited to a strong monetization approach. Additionally, the average revenue per user (ARPU) increased by 13%, which aided in alleviating the effects of a 2.7% drop in the subscription count.
In December 2023, Telenor secured a deal to transfer its operations in Pakistan to PTCL, pending regulatory approvals. The finalization of this agreement is anticipated in the first half of 2025.
The acquisition involves the transfer of 100% of Telenor Pakistan’s telecommunications operations to PTCL. Nonetheless, the process has faced delays primarily due to regulatory approvals and related stipulations. While there were early signs that the transaction could extend into early 2025, recent reports indicate a revised timeline.
If PTCL successfully completes the acquisition of Telenor, it could greatly alter the competitive dynamics of Pakistan’s telecommunications sector. An approved acquisition would combine PTCL’s substantial infrastructure with Telenor’s extensive customer base and mobile proficiency, likely improving service delivery for consumers.
Ultimately, the effect of this agreement on the market will hinge on how efficiently the integration is executed and whether the essential regulatory requirements are fulfilled in a timely manner.
