Following ECMAScript 2016, the ECMA International has given the green light to the latest edition of the ECMAScript Language Specification, ECMAScript 2017. JavaScript, which is built on ECMAScript, has established itself as the language of the web, as revealed in a recent survey conducted by JetBrains.
Before delving into the details of this specification release, it’s important to note that it should not be referred to as ES8. The ES naming convention was altered with ES6, which was rebranded as ECMAScript 2015.
Moving on to ECMAScript 2017. This marks the eighth edition of the ECMA Language Specification and represents the second release following the revised release schedule in 2015.
Some of the new features in ECMAScript 2017 include Object.values, String padding, Async functions, and the Exponentiation Operator. You can find more details about these features and more in this article on Medium.
Looking ahead to the next edition, ECMAScript 2018, we can anticipate the inclusion of Private fields, Async interaction, and more.
