The newest iteration of the Vivaldi web browser has just been released. Version 7.1 introduces a multitude of new customization options, as well as adjustments to standard search engines, downloads, and additional features.
This enhancement is presently accessible. While it typically downloads and installs automatically on the majority of systems, users can choose a manual installation if they prefer. To do so, simply open Vivaldi, navigate to Menu > Help > Check for Updates.
Outstanding Features of Vivaldi 7.1
The Vivaldi development team has integrated a variety of new customization features into the browser. A key feature improves the new tab page through newly added widgets from version 7.0.
Among the new dashboard components is a weather widget. Users can effortlessly add it by clicking on the “add a widget” button and selecting the weather option. This enables users to choose any global location to view the current weather and the weekly forecast immediately upon accessing the page.
Furthermore, users can now establish custom backgrounds for each widget. These backgrounds can be transparent, semi-transparent, solid, or any color they desire.
The support for Speed Dials remains unaltered, allowing them to be shown as independent elements or integrated within a widget. Vivaldi asserts that it has simplified the process of adding new Speed Dials, making it easier to manually input a site name and title, organize them into folders, or select a site from frequently visited pages.
Modifications to Default Search Engines
Vivaldi has updated several default search engines, which may lead users to notice a shift in their default search configurations. On my testing device, this change transitioned from Bing to Startpage.
It is noteworthy to mention that Vivaldi Technology has identified its associated search engines, which do not encompass Google or Bing but rather Startpage, Ecosia, DuckDuckGo, and Qwant.
To modify search engine preferences, go to Menu > Settings > Search. Users can choose different default search engines for regular browsing, private windows, and image searches.
Additional Significant Changes in Vivaldi 7.1
Alongside the personalization improvements, Vivaldi 7.1 includes several vital updates behind the scenes. Here’s a recap:
- For macOS users, Delta updates are now supported, enhancing the efficiency of downloading and installing new updates.
- A new feature enables the importation of open tabs from other browsers when users transition to Vivaldi during the onboarding phase.
- Users can now effortlessly share open tabs with other devices that also have Vivaldi installed.
- A feature now generates unique file names automatically for files downloaded from Vivaldi.
- A fix has been applied to address a previously identified issue that led to crash loops.
For a comprehensive changelog and more visuals illustrating the new features, you can visit Vivaldi’s official website, where downloads are also accessible for those interested in trying out the browser.
Vivaldi continues to establish a distinct space in the web browsing landscape by providing increased customization options. While this approach may not appeal to everyone, the browser has successfully nurtured a vibrant community.
