An impending update by WhatsApp will empower users to dispatch superior-quality HD images. The messaging service further aims to facilitate the transmission of HD videos in the upcoming period.
If the quality of shared photos on WhatsApp has ever left you feeling dissatisfied, rest assured, you are not alone. Luckily, WhatsApp is taking a significant stride by enabling users to exchange higher-quality “HD” images.
During an Instagram live stream, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced, “There’s a new upgrade for sharing photos on WhatsApp. You can now send them in HD.”
Initially, the HD enhancement may not be accessible to all users, but Meta intends to progressively introduce it worldwide in the coming weeks. Therefore, if you haven’t received it yet, exercise patience.
Despite the incorporation of the HD image feature, the image might still experience slight compression by either Android, iOS, or the web. Nonetheless, the quality is undeniably superior to previous standards.
Following the transmission of an image, a tiny HD gear icon will catch your eye. By opting for this icon, you can guarantee that your image reaches the recipient in the utmost quality possible. Recipients will also observe the HD icon on images they receive through the HD feature.
According to the insights shared by WABetaInfo about the beta version, clicking the HD button will unveil a “photo quality” menu offering users two resolution preferences: standard quality (1600 x 1052) and HD quality (4096 x 2692).
Recipients with slow internet connections or limited storage capacity need not fret. They will have the liberty to stick with the standard quality edition of the image or upgrade to HD.
All images transmitted through the HD feature will be safeguarded via WhatsApp’s end-to-end encryption, promising an equivalent level of security as the typical WhatsApp images.
In addition to HD image transfers, WhatsApp will promptly extend support for HD video transfers as well.
