The previous year saw the launch of Windows 11 Build 23H2 by Microsoft to the public, introducing Windows Copilot – a feature driven by AI, along with the Moments Update.
The release of this feature update was somewhat understated, with Microsoft failing to clearly differentiate it from subsequent feature additions.
Despite this, Copilot didn’t bring about any significant new functions compared to its web or app equivalents.
Microsoft revealed in February that Windows 11 Build 23H2 would be automatically deployed on devices approaching their end of service period. Most users interested in the new build have probably already made the transition, mainly focused on updating older Windows 11 versions.
Microsoft recently announced that support for consumer Windows 11 Build 22H2 and Windows 11 Build 21H2 for businesses would cease starting October.
Widespread Availability
Windows 11 Build 23H2 is now readily accessible to all users owning compatible devices.
It’s important to note that on certain devices, users might still need to manually search for updates to receive this feature update.
Microsoft also stated that non-managed Windows 11 Home and Pro devices will be upgraded automatically to the new build as they near the end of their servicing period.
To summarize:
- Users on Windows 11 Build 22H2 or an earlier version on an unmanaged device will be automatically shifted to Windows 11 Build 23H2 in the coming weeks or months.
- If you’re anticipating Windows 11 Build 23H2 and haven’t received it yet, it may appear when checking for updates.
- For those overseeing a Windows 11 Build 21H2 device, anticipate an automatic update in the upcoming months.
While Microsoft hasn’t reported any present issues, certain devices may not receive the update prompt even after manual update checks.
In such cases, alternative approaches should be explored to update to the latest Windows 11 build, like creating new installation media using Rufus, especially for devices that don’t meet Windows 11’s official system prerequisites.
